Noppera-bo, a Japanese mythical creature that resembles a faceless human, is harmless yet frightening. This series explores normative censorship on the female body with the idea of a Noppera-bo. The exposed, non-sexualized female body creates discomfort to many and prompts media censorship regardless of context. Ironically, the lack of facial identity fabricates a comfortable distance between the subject and the viewer. The once haunting creature has become fitting, appropriate, and almost desired.
